Provo, Utah – Utah Lake have been closed after the discovery of blooms of toxic algae.

The Division of Water Quality (DWQ) took samples from Utah Lake, On 19th Day of September, 2018.

Public records, collected by the The Division of Water Quality (DWQ), reveal, “Anatoxin-a levels exceeded recreation health-based thresholds for a Warning Advisory at two sample sites.” – The Division of Water Quality (DWQ)

“Three sites exceeded recreation health-based levels for a Warning Advisory for microcystins, including microcystin levels of >500 micrograms per liter (µg/L) near Bird Island after 100x dilution and >5 µg/L near Pelican Point.” – The Division of Water Quality (DWQ)

The Division of Water Quality found large blooms of the algae at Lincoln Marina, Linden Marina, Bird Island Bouy, and Pelican Point.

Linden Marina, and Lincoln Marina remain closed as of the 26th Day of September, 2018

The lake had previously been the subject of a PCB removal effort to remove affected wildlife.
