A Luxury Breakfast
Ever since the new Cafe D’Avignon coffee shop located on Sunset Walk at Margaritaville Resort Orlando opened this year, I’ve been getting my breakfast and coffee from them every day.– Concerned Citizen
On Sunday morning, March 15th 2020, after Florida had declared a State of Emergency due to the Coronavirus, she carefully weighed the risks of the virus against her need for high-quality caffeine. Even though the world was, and still is, in an unprecedented place, she wanted to maintain a feeling of normalcy and was eager to enjoy an as close-to-possible luxurious, carefree, morning breakfast. “Ever since the new Cafe D’Avignon coffee shop located on Sunset Walk at Margaritaville Resort Orlando opened this year, I’ve been getting my breakfast and coffee from them every day.” She was so pleased and ecstatic to have a place that served “fresh breakfast and delicious coffee with a classy décor.” Taking every precaution, she ventured off.
The Dirty Deed
After the lengthy coughing session was over, the employee did not wash her hands. Cough…INTO THE CROOK OF THE ELBOW!”– Concerned Citizen
Lacking The Most Basic Decency
The cafe was nearly empty except for a customer at the register paying cash. Right after the order was placed with the manager, a 20-something blonde Caucasian female with a bull style nose ring, thought it was okay to indecently cough multiple times all over the people around, the register, and the cash in her hand. “After the lengthy coughing session was over, the employee did not wash her hands.” This was horrifying. This happened right in front of the manager, whom did nothing to correct the unhygienic employee. The customer immediately asked that the coughing person not go near or handle the order. The distraught customer asked the manager why the employee wasn’t corrected and wasn’t following the CDC and WHO’s instructions on “how to cough when no tissues are available: INTO THE CROOK OF THE ELBOW!”
An Unapologetic Manager
The manager, completely uncaring and dismissive, condescendingly laughed while tersely stating: “she’s not sick.” The customer then quickly replied, “so if an employee is not sick, they are allowed to cough all over the food and surfaces without any consequence or correction?” At that point the manager completely ignored the customer and proceeded to smugly continue to appear busy. It is hilarious that this manager had the gall to claim such absurdities, acting like the customer is absurd to care for the health and safety of herself and the community. If the manager is medically qualified to proclaim who is sick and who isn’t, she likely wouldn’t be working at a coffee shop!
Complete And Utter Apathy In Time Of Crisis
Did this employee burn her brains out and forget this key information? Did the school system and her family fail to instill the most basic decency?– Concerned Citizen
Normally this wouldn’t have been so off-putting, but we are in the midst of a pandemic. For the majority of the population, the symptoms of the virus are mild, yet the true concern is how quickly and easily it spreads. One of the main ways it spreads is though respiratory droplets that can land on nearby surfaces and people, and can be inhaled. Is it really too much to ask that a place that serves food and beverages follow the food safety regulations? Really though, isn’t this sort of hygiene and etiquette taught in schools to young children? “Did this employee burn her brains out and forget this key information? Did the school system and her family fail to instill the most basic decency?” Yes, agreed that is indeed a true mystery.
Ignorance And Laziness Spreads Coronavirus
I fear for the community since the manager did not take precautions with this employee. We can only imagine how many additional sloppy coughs have occurred since.– Concerned Citizen
This inconsiderate and uncaring attitude is what is causing the virus to spread. It is truly disgusting that some individuals feel as though it doesn’t matter what they do since they are okay with getting sick since the symptoms aren’t “too bad.” What these ignorant uncaring fools don’t understand is that there are people that are elderly or have compromised immune systems that can die due to someone not even knowing they are sick spreading the virus. Take Donovan Mitchell as a prime example of a young ignorant uncaring individual choosing to see the virus as a joke and intentionally spreading it.
The Coronavirus can live on surfaces for up to 28 days. This means that the virus not only has the food, surfaces, and people that were coughed on as ways to spread, but also the cash that will be going into the community from the coffee shop.
Let’s do the math. A single cough can have up to 3000 infected droplets. This dirty Cafe D’Avignon in Sunset Walk at Margaritaville Resort Orlando employee performed a series of coughs, let’s say 5 coughs (to be nice and conservative); that means 15,000 droplets remaining in the air and living on surfaces spreading rapidly. “This is just during that one incident Sunday morning; I fear for the community since the manager did not take precautions with this employee. We can only imagine how many additional sloppy coughs have occurred since.“ the customer said with concern.
Hoping For A True Resolution
Donovan Mitchell is doing something to make his terrible mistake right. What is Cafe D’Avignon going to do?– Concerned Citizen
The only person that has been taking action and visibly cares about health and safety is the bearded barista named Mark. He has been carefully guarding the organic milks and even created a sign asking customers not to touch them. Ever since this incident occurred, Mark has happily been washing his hands in front of the customer and has been handling her orders himself. “Cafe D’Avignon is very fortunate to have Mark, otherwise I would have gone back to Starbucks; that of course wouldn’t help the lack of business due to the Coronavirus.” At least “Donovan Mitchell is doing something to make his terrible mistake right. What is Cafe D’Avignon going to do?” Hopefully they will fire the pretentious, patronizing manager and the dirty employee that inspired this article. The customer suggested, “Mark should be the new manager at the coffee shop; I trust he would keep all the employees in line in terms of cleanliness and hygiene.”
Now, that sounds super fine and dandy, but isn’t Mark just one person?
Cafe D’Avignon, Don’t Kill Off Your Customers
Without a quality staff, this location will certainly not be a true reflection of the corporate locations… employ people that care as much or even more about customers’ health and safety than the freshness of the pastries.– Concerned Citizen
The Customer’s Plead
The customer pleads to Cafe D’Avignon corporate:
“Please do not be impertinent and impudent like the inferior quality manager that has been assigned to welcome this location to Orlando. Do not make the mistake in thinking that most of your customers will be tourists, that they are on vacation and won’t complain. Don’t be foolish to think that the locals can’t afford to eat there and won’t be around to complain. Without a quality staff, this location will certainly not be a true reflection of the corporate locations. Don’t let this franchise ruin your brand, Cafe D’Avignon! Live up to the stellar pastry and coffee reputation you have and employ people that care as much or even more about customers’ health and safety than the freshness of the pastries.”
If not, then who’s going to be around to purchase those renowned perfectly fresh pastries?

Let’s Improve Safety Together
We should all be thankful that the Coronavirus doesn’t have extreme symptoms for the mass population. “We need to take this moment in time as an important exercise and learning experience to prepare ourselves, our communities, and our nation for any possible future pandemics that may occur.”
